The EBE Story Is Unfolding...
In 1999, a fifteen-year-old named Harrison Young began writing and recording electronic music in his room in Mahwah, NJ. Shortly after realizing and harnessing the power of MIDI, drum samples, and reversed reverbs, he began to imagine himself as a musical outsider, a universal observer looking in on the beginning of the digital age. He wrote songs about time travel, existentialism, the end of the world, and of course, teenage love. In early 2000, Harrison finished an album of music called “Dehumanized,” which included a track called ‘Alien Lab,’ where he depicted himself as one of the recovered extra-terrestrial bodies taken from the prolific UFO crash in the New Mexico desert outside of Roswell in 1947.
This was the birth of EBE.
Since then, it's been a long road home for EBE, one with many twists and turns. Over the years, Harrison has had the opportunity to bring some of the most talented musicians he's ever come across into the group in several different formations. Some of those former and current players include Daryl Anderson, Nick Douglas, Chris Eddleton, Greg Inverso, Martin Moretto, and many more.
In October 2008, after playing hundreds of shows, embarking on a handful of tours, and releasing three albums of music, a phone call from guitarist, Matt McDonald to Harrison Young would change everything in the EBE camp forever. Their drummer for the past year, Greg Inverso, had killed himself the night before, on October 5. After weeks of despair and soul searching, EBE slowly began to come together again. A tribute concert for Greg was organized and presented at Shrine in Harlem on December 23, 2008, which brought together 8 years worth of EBE members to play the music they share in memory of their friend.
2009 marks the beginning of a new era for EBE. While the future is always uncertain, they are looking towards the light, and feel incredibly priveliged to be making music again, even more powerfully than before. The current lineup of Harrison, Matt, Nick, and Mike is full of hope and optimism, and the music has come alive again in a brand new way.
This year will see them refine their new live show and will also see the release of their fourth full length studio albumn, Dark Matters, which will be dedicated to the memory of Greg Inverso.
UPDATE, May 2009: EBE have officially reformed as EARTH MINOR. Please look for their debut album, Dark Matters soon.
